The Lost Ones

FICTION

When Julian Westerling and his partner, Kate, discover that their daughter, Natalie, possesses a remarkable empathic power, they are unsure whether to consider it as a blessing or a curse. For Natalie appears to be able not only to feel what others are feeling, but also to alleviate their suffering, and this power seems to draw her towards those whom she insists on describing as the lost ones. The reassurances offered to the parents by a child psychologist prove to be short-lived, and when their family is torn apart by an horrific act of violence, the responsibility that they both feel for what has happened leads them to act, albeit in very different ways.
